payton

October seventh, down at the Rock

I knew your face from a Snapchat screen

Wasn't quite sure if it was really you

Till my friend walked up and I stepped on the scene

You asked me to ride in the tractor next day

I ended up passing, but I couldn't stay away

We started texting and hanging around

Finding our footing in this little town

Oh, Payton, you've got a heart made of gold

You stand for your beliefs, you're brave and you're bold

You make me laugh when the days get long

With you right beside me is where I belong

You work so hard and you care so deep

You're the one I can count on, the promise I keep

You make the simple things feel like a dream

You're the strongest half of our little team

We jumped the Mega Cab, played games with your friends

Felt like a couple before it began

You met my folks and you fit right in

Next day my brothers took you hunting with them

You left to go on storm, we'd FaceTime at night

Keeping the spark in the pale phone light

I called you my "boy space friend" as a joke

Waiting for the day that the real words broke

Oh, Payton, you've got a heart made of gold

You stand for your beliefs, you're brave and you're bold

You make me laugh when the days get long

With you right beside me is where I belong

You work so hard and you care so deep

You're the one I can count on, the promise I keep

You make the simple things feel like a dream

You're the strongest half of our little team

January fourth, you showed up with flowers

Asked me to be yours after all of those hours

Now it's been three years, and look how we've grown

Got a little puppy, looking for a house of our own

Talking 'bout forever, looking down the road

You're the safest place that I've ever known

Oh, Payton, you've got a heart made of gold

You stand for your beliefs, you're brave and you're bold

You make me laugh when the days get long

With you right beside me is where I belong

From the Rock to the tractor, to the life that we see

I'm so glad my boy space friend fell in love with me
