James

Every morning you walk me out to the car

It’s a quiet devotion that shows who you are

And when the day's over and I pull in the drive

You’re waiting right there with a smile in your eyes

You served in the Coast Guard, steady and true

Now my favorite safe harbor is right here with you

Oh, James, we've built a beautiful life

Sitting on the porch, just husband and wife

With your thoughtful heart and the humor you show

Darling, you had me from hello

Sunday mornings at church, singing hymns of grace

Then back to the garden, our own little space

We're feeding the chickens and petting the cats

Living that river life in our old faded hats

When autumn rolls in, you're off hunting deer

But you always come back to the love we have here

Now we've reached retirement, taking weekend trips

With a clever little joke right there on your lips

You’re my biggest supporter, my faithful best friend

I'll be holding your hand right up to the end

Oh, James, we've built a beautiful life

Sitting on the porch, just husband and wife

With your thoughtful heart and the humor you show

Darling, you had me from hello

Yeah, looking at you, I just want you to know

My sweet, loving man, you had me from hello
