Calvin

We started out with empty pockets, Calvin, you and me

Nowhere to lay our heads, just a wild and stubborn dream

You were smart enough to find the light when the dark was closing in

With a joke to make me smile when we didn't know where to begin

We didn't have a roof, but I knew we'd be okay

'Cause even back when we had nothing, you chased the fear away

No matter how bad it got, you stood like an oak

Working yourself to the bone for every promise you spoke

When the heavy storms came rolling, you didn't sway

My hard-working husband, you always found a way

Yeah, you always found a way

The years went spinning by us, and our boys have all grown tall

Inside this home we built together, with pictures on the wall

You kept that wild streak alive, but you anchored us in love

When the weight was on your shoulders, you never once gave up

From having absolutely nothing, to a porch where we can sit

I look at this beautiful life, and you're the reason for it

No matter how bad it got, you stood like an oak

Working yourself to the bone for every promise you spoke

When the heavy storms came rolling, you didn't sway

My hard-working husband, you always found a way

Yeah, you always found a way

Now the rooms are full of laughter from the grandkids at our feet

We get to spoil 'em rotten, and it makes the years so sweet

I look back at the starting line, and every tear we faced

I wouldn't trade a single mile of the journey that we traced

'Cause no matter how bad it got, you stood like an oak

Working yourself to the bone for every promise you spoke

When the heavy storms came rolling, you didn't sway

My hard-working husband, you always found a way

My funny, wild, and brilliant man, you always found a way
