Grace Took The Desire

Written for Sheryl · FreeCustomSong Original

I’ve always had a heart to help, to comfort and to care

A patient soul for everyone, a heavy load to bear

I knew the Lord for many years, I walked within His grace

Until a choice in two-thousand-and-four hid me from His face

For twenty-one long, weary years, the chains of habit held

A battle with addiction where the darkest shadows dwelled

Oh, thank You, Jesus, for the cross, for dying just to save me

And thank You for not giving up when I was lost completely

You took this wandering prodigal and washed my spirit clean

You loved me through my willful sin and showed me what grace means

You gave the wake-up call I need and set me on the path

My Heavenly Father called me home and rescued me at last

I thought I’d drifted far too deep to hear my Father's voice

I thought my season in the dark had ruined every choice

But recently God spoke to me, He caught my wandering eye

And with a sudden, holy love, He heard my desperate cry

He reached into my very soul and took the urge away

I haven't touched or wanted it since that redeeming day

Oh, thank You, Jesus, for the cross, for dying just to save me

And thank You for not giving up when I was lost completely

You took this wandering prodigal and washed my spirit clean

You loved me through my willful sin and showed me what grace means

You gave the wake-up call I need and set me on the path

My Heavenly Father called me home and rescued me at last

If He can take my broken years and make my spirit new

If He can do this work for me, He’ll do the same for you

Just ask Him for His mercy, let Him wrap you in His grace

No human love could ever take our Heavenly Father's place

He loves us more than anyone has ever loved before

Just knock and He will gladly open up the mercy door

Oh, thank You, Jesus, for the cross, for dying just to save me

And thank You for not giving up when I was lost completely

You took this wandering prodigal and washed my spirit clean

You loved me through my willful sin and showed me what grace means

You gave the wake-up call I need and set me on the path

My Heavenly Father called me home and rescued me at last
