God, You gave me a heart to feel the weight that others bear

They come to me with heavy minds and tell me all their cares

Like the day my childhood friend came knocking at my door

Tired of the streets she walked, couldn't take it anymore

I took her hands right in the yard, beneath the open sky

Said, "If two of us agree right now, the Lord will hear our cry."

I know my God is real, I know He always answers

Even when I did my time, I shared Your saving grace

Bringing light to women lost inside a darkened place

And when the church asked me to speak, I asked You, Lord, to guide me

The words just flowed right through my lips, I felt Your love inside me.

Years went by, and at a cookout, I heard someone call my name

It was my friend, with all her kids, completely free from shame

She ran to me in happy tears, her family restored

She said, "Thank you for believing in me and in the Lord."

"I'm off the streets, no drugs at all, He answered what we prayed."

I hugged her tight and told her, "That's the promise He has made."
