Gabe

Junior year started as friends at Hammond High

In Mrs. Porter's English 3

Then you were gone, and I was wondering why

I was worried what the reason could be

But a few weeks passed and you walked back in

Right before the homecoming dance

I saw that gorgeous, spontaneous grin

And I hoped I might have a chance

Gabe, you're the sweetest guy I know

Eating lunch together, walking me to class

You're humble and kind, and it always shows

Making me laugh as the school days pass

Happy seventeenth birthday, I thank God you're here

We've got so much to learn, but the feeling is clear

You deserve the best, and I'm so glad to see

What the future is bringing for you and me

I told my mom I wanted to be your date

But I was way too shy to speak

Thank God you asked before it was too late

I said "Sure!" and it made my week

I watched you play in the band at the game

We stayed out talking 'til almost one

Downtown park pictures, I'm glad that you came

Having fun with our friends until the night was done

Gabe, you're the sweetest guy I know

Eating lunch together, walking me to class

You're humble and kind, and it always shows

Making me laugh as the school days pass

Happy seventeenth birthday, I thank God you're here

We've got so much to learn, but the feeling is clear

You deserve the best, and I'm so glad to see

What the future is bringing for you and me

On the ride home, you rested your head on my shoulder

I was too awkward to reach for your hand

But the very next morning, I got a bit bolder

Sent you a text to see where we stand

You said you were gonna ask me on Monday

But October 18th became our Sunday

Gabe, you're the sweetest guy I know

Eating lunch together, walking me to class

You're honorable, respectful, and it always shows

Making me laugh as the school days pass

Happy seventeenth birthday, I thank God you're here

We've got so much to learn, but the feeling is clear

You deserve the best, you mean so much to me

Happy birthday, Gabe, with all my love, Addie
