Elijah

I was your kindergarten teacher, now your senior year is here

I’ve had a front row seat to watch you grow with every passing year

From our family trips to Disney, to the trails of Yellowstone

Camping out by Mammoth Cave, the best times we have known

You’ve always been a pioneer, an explorer from the start

Painting up a beautiful life with your tender, joyful heart

Elijah, you’re an artist with compassion and with grace

With a paintbrush and a prayer, you’re gonna find your place

You love the Lord so deeply, you’re adventurous and free

And I’ll love you forever, forever always

As long as I am living, my baby you will be

I close my eyes and see you playing baseball in the sun

And those mom-and-son car rides when the busy day was done

The way you hold your siblings and you help them when they fall

Now you applied to Job Corps on your own, ready for the call

The day you accepted Jesus, I saw your spirit shine

Your gentleness and humor make me proud that you are mine

Elijah, you’re an artist with compassion and with grace

With a paintbrush and a prayer, you’re gonna find your place

You love the Lord so deeply, you’re adventurous and free

And I’ll love you forever, forever always

As long as I am living, my baby you will be

I’m gonna miss those tight hugs when you’re out there on the roam

But no matter where you travel, you can always come back home

Keep creating, keep exploring, let your faith be your guide

I’ll be cheering for my son, standing right by your side

Elijah, you’re an artist with compassion and with grace

With a paintbrush and a prayer, you’re gonna find your place

You love the Lord so deeply, you’re adventurous and free

And I’ll love you forever, forever always

As long as I am living, my baby you will be
