Marlean

Down at Ebenezer Baptist, when the Sunday doors swing wide

You can feel the Holy Spirit and the fellowship inside

And right there in the middle, with a hand reached out to bless

Is my dear friend Marlean, bringing grace and tenderness

She’s the first to lift a burden, she’s the first to dry a tear

Showing everybody present that the love of God is near

Oh, the Lord is your shepherd, you shall not want a thing

He leads you by the still waters, He makes your spirit sing

Your cup is overflowing, with goodness and with grace

And surely mercy follows you, all your earthly days

Now if the week is feeling heavy, or the road is getting long

Marlean’s gonna crack a joke and give your heart a song

She can make the whole room holler, she can make the whole room cheer

Chasing out the heavy shadows, casting out the fear

And when the fellowship is over, we know what she's looking for

A piece of chocolate in her hand as she's walking out the door

Oh, the Lord is your shepherd, you shall not want a thing

He leads you by the still waters, He makes your spirit sing

Your cup is overflowing, with goodness and with grace

And surely mercy follows you, all your earthly days

Through the valleys and the shadows, you never walk alone

His rod and staff they comfort you, He claims you as His own

He prepares a table for you, a banquet shining bright

And you share that feast with everyone, stepping in the light

Oh, the Lord is your shepherd, you shall not want a thing

He leads you by the still waters, He makes your spirit sing

Your cup is overflowing, with goodness and with grace

And surely mercy follows you, all your earthly days

Yes, you will dwell inside His house, with a smile upon your face!
