Johnny

I take a step back to that very first cry

The moment they placed you right into my life

The day you were born, yeah, the whole world stood still

A space in my soul that only you could fill

Johnny, my son, from that very first breath

I promised to give you my absolute best

So whatever you do, and wherever you go

There is one simple truth that I need you to know

Through the highs and the lows, through the passing of years

Just look over your shoulder, I'll always be here

Yeah, my love is a promise that won't ever fade

I'm standing right by you, whatever your way

I look at the man that you're growing to be

You give of yourself so unselfishly

You light up the dark with your beautiful smile

Making the journey of life so worthwhile

You carry a warmth that draws everyone in

And the sweet love for your mother is where it begins

So whatever you do, and wherever you go

There is one simple truth that I need you to know

Through the highs and the lows, through the passing of years

Just look over your shoulder, I'll always be here

Yeah, my love is a promise that won't ever fade

I'm standing right by you, whatever your way

The world can get heavy, the road can get long

But you've got a spirit so steady and strong

Whenever you stumble, whenever you fly

I'm right in your corner, I'm right by your side

So whatever you do, and wherever you go

There is one simple truth that I need you to know

Through the highs and the lows, through the passing of years

Just look over your shoulder, I'll always be here

Yeah, my love is a promise that won't ever fade

I'm standing right by you, whatever your way
