Sammy

When we were young and the world felt so tall

You were the hands that would catch every fall

When mom and dad had a strict word to say

You were the safe place where we'd run away

Uncle Sammy, with a comforting smile

You’d open your arms and just hold us a while

You loved us like we were your very own

The kindest protector that we've ever known

You gave us the world, asked for nothing in return

Just guided us gently and helped us to learn

You made us feel special, you made us feel free

This is our thank you, Uncle Sammy

You always made sure we had just what we'd need

And gave us the things we were hoping to keep

Never a price tag, and never a debt

Just a pure kind of care that we’ll never forget

You looked after us as we grew and we changed

Your generous spirit has stayed just the same

You loved us like we were your very own

The kindest protector that we've ever known

You gave us the world, asked for nothing in return

Just guided us gently and helped us to learn

You made us feel special, you made us feel free

This is our thank you, Uncle Sammy

Today as we celebrate seventy years

We hope you feel loved as your family cheers

We are right here for you, whatever you need

To return all the warmth of the love that you sow

We pray God will fill up your heart with His joy

And bless you wherever you happen to go

You loved us like we were your very own

The kindest protector that we've ever known

You gave us the world, asked for nothing in return

Just guided us gently and helped us to learn

You made us feel special, you made us feel free

We love you so much, Uncle Sammy
