I kept it patient and calm, speaking truth just like my mother

Giving all my help when they wouldn't do it for another

As Tallahatchie County Chairman, I was standing my ground

But the Spirit had a different kind of purpose to be found

Through the thankless days, I kept a quiet grace

Knowing that the Lord was preparing me a place

In twenty-twenty-three, I finally said yes to the Lord

Announced it in twenty-four, standing firmly on His Word

I took up the mantle to be a spiritual leader

In twenty-twenty-five, I preached the homegoing for Hakeem

My very first funeral, trusting in the unseen

Through every preaching assignment, I’m keeping the faith

Running this race, relying on His grace

Psalm thirty-five and thirteen, I humble my soul

Praying for the broken, letting God take control

For Ka'Riah, Derriyon, Aderious, and Dekorrius too

Kartier and all the kids who look to me for the truth

I’m an uncle to the youth, pouring love into their days

Showing them the light of the Savior's ways
