Vernon

I still see the firelight on your face

Out by the camper, our favorite place

The kids were little, running through the pines

While you were untangling our fishing lines

You'd pull a prank just to make us smile

I'd give anything to sit with you a while

Oh, Vernon, I'm going to miss you so

It's a heavy kind of quiet watching you go

I'll miss you holding those grandbabies tight

And casting a line in the early light

Your laughter is a song I'll always keep

A love so wide and a river so deep

You never missed a chance to play a joke

Telling tall tales through the campfire smoke

You always had a way of reeling us in

With a twinkle in your eye and a knowing grin

Just you and the water, the perfect day

I wouldn't have wanted it any other way

Oh, Vernon, I'm going to miss you so

It's a heavy kind of quiet watching you go

I'll miss you holding those grandbabies tight

And casting a line in the early light

Your laughter is a song I'll always keep

A love so wide and a river so deep

The tackle box sits quiet by the door

The house doesn't sound like it did before

But I see your spirit when the babies play

And I'll carry your heart with me every day

Oh, Vernon, I'm going to miss you so

It's a heavy kind of quiet watching you go

I'll miss you holding those grandbabies tight

And casting a line in the early light

Your laughter is a song I'll always keep

A love so wide and a river so deep

Yeah, I'm going to miss you, Vernon
