Marie

The plates are set, the family's gathered 'round

But the room is missing its favorite sound

I close my eyes and hear your stories unfold

With that patient humor, more precious than gold

Marie, you were our shield, protective and strong

Encouraging our spirits when the days felt long

Oh, we are standing on a foundation of truth

Built by the moral guidance we learned from you

Through every challenge, your wisdom remains

A light in the valley, a shelter in rain

In every choice that we make, in the way that we care

We look at our lives and we see Marie there

I miss the gentle way you'd sit me down

And turn my heaviest worries right around

You had a joke to chase the shadows away

And the perfect advice for a difficult day

You taught us to love with an open heart

And that is a legacy time cannot part

Oh, we are standing on a foundation of truth

Built by the moral guidance we learned from you

Through every challenge, your wisdom remains

A light in the valley, a shelter in rain

In every choice that we make, in the way that we care

We look at our lives and we see Marie there

If heaven could open and grant me one choice

I'd sit at the dinner table and soak in your voice

I'd hold onto your hand, look you straight in the eye

Just to say "I love you" one more time

Lord, I'd say "I love you" one more time!

Oh, we are standing on a foundation of truth

Built by the moral guidance we learned from you

Through every challenge, your wisdom remains

A light in the valley, a shelter in rain

In every choice that we make, in the way that we care

We look at our lives and we see Marie there

Oh, we look at our lives, and we see Marie there!
