Maw

You dialed up a friend 'cause you needed to go

Down to the store, but they had to say no

I spoke right up, said I'd take you down there

Just a couple of kids with some time we could share

You climbed in the seat and you closed the car door

Didn't know what the future was keeping in store

It started with a ride, now it’s fifty-four years

Maw, you’re my joy through the laughter and tears

You're patient, protective, encouraging too

I don't know a soul who loves better than you

Hand in my hand, like the first time we met

I thank the good Lord for that ride I won't forget

The miles kept on rolling, our family grew

Chad and Jamie, the best part of me and you

You watched over us, a mother so true

With a soft, steady heart that has carried us through

Fifty-four years of a love built to last

Since I put it in drive and stepped on the gas

It started with a ride, now it’s fifty-four years

Maw, you’re my joy through the laughter and tears

You're patient, protective, encouraging too

I don't know a soul who loves better than you

Hand in my hand, like the first time we met

I thank the good Lord for that ride I won't forget

Sometimes life turns on a simple mistake

Or a trip to the market you just had to make

If your friend had said yes, I don't know where I'd be

But heaven had plans for you and for me

It started with a ride, now it’s fifty-four years

Maw, you’re my joy through the laughter and tears

You're patient, protective, encouraging too

I don't know a soul who loves better than you

Hand in my hand, like the first time we met

I thank the good Lord for that ride I won't forget

Yeah, I thank the good Lord for that ride I won't forget
