Derek

It started with a fist bump, you looked a little strange

The mother of your best friend, a funny kind of change

But the laughter started rolling, we couldn't keep it in

Our funny bones connected, right where we begin

I saw your gentle spirit, the way your faith unfurled

And a loving heart that is bigger than the world

Derek, you light up when you hear the name of Jesus

You see the beauty in the world, exactly how He sees us

We are one pea in one pod that God made for each other

I'll always be your ride or die, now and forever

We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength

I'll walk this blessed road with you, no matter the length

I think about that anniversary in the living room for two

Dancing in the backyard to the songs that we both knew

Swaying in the evening beneath the open sky

With a man so gentle, he wouldn't even hurt a fly

You love me and your grandma, you hold your family near

Your kindness is a testament that Heaven's working here

Derek, you light up when you hear the name of Jesus

You see the beauty in the world, exactly how He sees us

We are one pea in one pod that God made for each other

I'll always be your ride or die, now and forever

We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength

I'll walk this blessed road with you, no matter the length

I watched you get your license, stepping in your calling

You love to be in church, catching people when they're falling

You'll preach the Word of God no matter where you are

Sharing His great love and carrying it far

You love the Lord above more than anything you own

And I am just so grateful for the grace that we've been shown

'Cause Derek, you light up when you hear the name of Jesus

You see the beauty in the world, exactly how He sees us

We are one pea in one pod that God made for each other

I'll always be your ride or die, now and forever

We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength

I'll walk this blessed road with you, no matter the length
