Sylvia

October twenty-first of seventy-seven

Underneath the stadium lights

I saw you at that football game

And I fell in love at first sight

I thought I might not see your face again

When I dropped a friend off at the school

But you ran right out to say hello

And invited me to church with you

Sylvia, my tender-hearted wife and my best friend

It was God’s design that brought us here, a love that has no end

He knew the plans He had for us, just like the scripture says

To give us a hope and a future, for all our earthly days

Created for each other, right from the very start

A woman of such gentle strength, who loves Him with all her heart

New Year's Day of seventy-eight, you finally turned sixteen

We started dating despite the trials and obstacles unseen

Your mother tried to break us up, but we held on so tight

On February ninth of seventy-nine, we walked into the light

We built a home and raised three kids, our boy between two girls

An excellent mother and a giving soul, the center of my world

Sylvia, my tender-hearted wife and my best friend

It was God’s design that brought us here, a love that has no end

He knew the plans He had for us, just like the scripture says

To give us a hope and a future, for all our earthly days

Created for each other, right from the very start

A woman of such gentle strength, who loves Him with all her heart

Now there are three granddaughters running circles round the floor

You're a fun and caring Nanny, who could ever ask for more?

We're growing closer every day, the years go flying past

Blessed beyond our wildest dreams, with a love He built to last

Sylvia, my tender-hearted wife and my best friend

It was God’s design that brought us here, a love that has no end

Jeremiah twenty-nine eleven, a promise ringing true

A hope and a beautiful future, I found it all in you

Created for each other, right from the very start

Sylvia, my only love, the keeper of my heart
