Charles

I was only fourteen, I didn't even know your name

But you saw me standing there and nothing was the same

You turned to your best friend and made a quiet vow

"I'm going to marry her," though you didn't know how

I was unaware of the future God had planned

But you were right, my darling, when you took my hand

Fifty-five years of a love so deep and true

I thank the Lord above for the gift of loving you

You gave your heart to our family, a legacy of grace

And I still see the devotion shining in your face

My love is forever, it's a message that I send

Until we meet again, my love, until we meet again

I smile at the funny ways you show your love for me

The little jokes and gestures that only I can see

After all these decades, the feeling hasn't passed

You look at me the same way, a love designed to last

A gentle kind of shepherd for the family we made

A beautiful devotion that is never going to fade

Fifty-five years of a love so deep and true

I thank the Lord above for the gift of loving you

You gave your heart to our family, a legacy of grace

And I still see the devotion shining in your face

My love is forever, it's a message that I send

Until we meet again, my love, until we meet again

Time can never break what heaven tied so strong

The boy who made a promise, he was right all along

Charles, you are my blessing, the anchor of my soul

You loved me through a lifetime and made my spirit whole

Fifty-five years of a love so deep and true

I praise the Lord above for the gift of loving you

You gave your heart to our family, a legacy of grace

And nothing in this world could ever take your place

My love is forever, it's a promise that I send

Until we meet again, Charles, until we meet again
