Carter

Waiting by the school doors in the afternoon sun

Looking for my grandson when the day is done

You walk out a little shy, with a quiet kind of grace

And a gentle, loving kindness written on your face

I call out "Wanna Vic" and I watch you smile

I'd walk across the world just to sit with you a while

Oh, Carter, I promise you this right now

You carry a light that the dark won't dim out

With your beautiful mind and your tender heart

I know that one day you're gonna be a star

And no matter how far, or whatever you do

Forever and always, I will love you

You take the whole world in with a brilliant mind

Always so thoughtful, and always so kind

Even when you're quiet, there is so much you say

I cherish the blessing of our drive every day

Just riding back home, with my favorite boy

I thank the Lord above for this simple joy

Oh, Carter, I promise you this right now

You carry a light that the dark won't dim out

With your beautiful mind and your tender heart

I know that one day you're gonna be a star

And no matter how far, or whatever you do

Forever and always, I will love you

So don't ever let the shadows tell you to hide

Keep that sweet, loving spirit burning bright inside

I see the greatness that you haven't seen yet

You're a promise of tomorrow that I'll never forget

Oh, Carter, I promise you this right now

You carry a light that the dark won't dim out

With your beautiful mind and your tender heart

I know that one day you're gonna be a star

And no matter how far, or whatever you do

Forever and always, I will love you

Yes, forever and always, I will love you
