Richard

I still see that patient smile you wore,

Waiting for me by the front screen door.

Always ready with a helping hand,

To guide me when I couldn't understand.

Richard, you were my quiet strength,

You would go to any length

To make me feel like I was safe and sound,

The truest protector I ever found.

I'll remember when we danced, spinning round the room,

Chasing out the shadows, laughing through the gloom.

You were wise, you were funny, my shield from the start,

Leaving your gentle mark all over my heart.

I just want to thank you for the love you gave,

And the beautiful life you helped me pave.

If my world was broken, you knew how to fix it,

If the weight was heavy, you knew how to lift it.

With a clever joke to dry my tears,

You were the one who calmed my fears.

A daughter's hero in the fading light,

You taught me how to tell the wrong from right.

I appreciate the man you were, the lessons that you left,

Even though this missing you is heavy in my chest.

Every time we loved, every time we smiled,

You made me so proud to be your child.

I'll remember when we danced, spinning round the room,

Chasing out the shadows, laughing through the gloom.

You were wise, you were funny, my shield from the start,

Leaving your gentle mark all over my heart.

Oh, Richard, I just want to thank you for the love you gave,

And the beautiful life you helped me pave.

I'll remember when we danced.
